COBWEBS Child Weight Management and Training Programme (download
information)
COBWEBS (combating obesity with education and balance) is approved by the Department of Health as part of the ‘Healthy Weight, Healthy Lives' initiative. It is only the long term and cost effective programme approved by the Department of Health which uses a holistic pyschosocial approach.
The programme is designed specifically to meet the needs of morbidly obese young people aged 12 to 19 years and facilitates rolling long-term support, building on existing and developing practice.
COBWEBS requires a dedicated team of (min) 6 staff comprising health, food and activity workers and runs throughout school term times (40wks). The programme is sustainable and adaptable to local needs eg culture, disability etc and provides opportunities for volunteering. Training is delivered over 8 days and staff are supported over 12mths. Trained staff become ‘skilled helpers' to facilitate personal responsibility for weight management.
